Stream donation fees explained in pounds

Two kinds of fees touch every tip: the tip platform's fee and the payment provider's fee. Mixing them up leads to bad comparisons. This guide works through real examples in pounds so you can see exactly what a UK tip leaves you, and how DonoLink compares with tools that charge nothing at all.

Work out what you keep

  1. Open the calculator on the donolink.co.uk homepage.
  2. Pick your typical tip amount in pounds.
  3. Check the Stripe rate for the way your viewers usually pay.
  4. Follow the real net amount of every tip in your dashboard.

Worked examples in pounds

The table below uses Stripe's published rate for a standard UK card, 1.5% + 20p. On a £5 tip Stripe takes £0.28 and DonoLink £0.18, so you keep £4.54. On £10 you keep £9.30, and on £25 Stripe takes £0.58 and DonoLink £0.88, leaving you £23.54.

Checkout always uses the actual fee for the card or method used, and your dashboard shows the real net amount of every tip.

Which Stripe rate applies

Stripe charges by how the viewer pays. A standard UK debit or credit card costs 1.5% + 20p. A premium UK card costs 2.8% + 20p, and cards issued outside the UK cost 2.5% to 3.15% + 20p.

Pay by Bank costs 0.5% + 20p, up to £5 per payment, and Revolut Pay costs 1.5% + 20p. Both appear on your page once Stripe has activated them for your account.

How DonoLink compares

Be honest about what you are paying for. Streamlabs, StreamElements and Fourthwall take 0% on tips, and so does Ko-fi once you switch off its Contributor status (new Ko-fi pages start with a 5% fee). So DonoLink is not the cheapest option on paper. What 3.5% buys is a tip page, alerts, moderation and payouts on your own Stripe account in one tool.

Money that stays inside a platform costs more: Twitch Bits leave you around 71% and subs around 50%, YouTube Super Chat pays out 70% and TikTok LIVE gifts around half. Buy Me a Coffee charges 5% and Patreon 10% on new pages.

When the viewer covers the fee

At checkout a viewer can choose to cover the DonoLink fee. The tip then reaches you without the platform fee taken off; Stripe's processing fee still comes off your side.
